US should support Iranian Resistance for democratic change – US lawyer

US should support Iranian Resistance for democratic change – US lawyerNCRI – Addressing the rally of several thousand Iranian-Americans before the White House on January 19, Ron Precup, defense lawyer for the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran and the National Council of Resistance of Iran stressed that time has come for the US government to assert its leadership and actively support peaceful and democratic regime change in Iran. The following is the full text of his remarks:

We are gathered here in one of the most famous public places, political forums, in the United States, Lafayette Park, within view of White House. For two hundred years, this park has been a place for people to gather to express their deeply held political beliefs to the government of the United States and to the world.

So why are we here today? For one purpose and one purpose only, to advocate to our government leaders, urgently and powerfully a peaceful and democratic regime change in Iran.

The freedom of the ancient, wise and intelligent people of Iran, is a goal that all thoughtful men and women must share. In my view and in view of most who I’ve contemplated, the plight and the future of Iran, the pass to that freedom, freedom from oppression and discrimination, freedom of thought and responsible action, lies not in invasion or in a bloody civil war but in peaceful democratic change.

Now how, how is this freedom to be achieved? First and foremost I suggest, by the active support of the United States government for those most prepared to lead a free and democratic and a secular Iran, the Iranian Resistance under the leadership of Masoud Rajavi and Maryam Rajavi of the National Council of Resistance of Iran and the People’s Mojahedin organization of Iran.

The NCR and the PMOI have devoted long years of intense efforts to freeing the Iranian people from the mullahs. At this stage the threat from the clerical regime to world peace has never been greater but it will continue to grow day by day as that regime continues to defy the civilized world to pursue its far advanced nuclear weapons program and as it gets closer and closer to the day that can carry out Ahmadinejad’s threat to wipe Israel off the face of the earth, to make Iraq another Islamic republic and to export terror throughout the world.

The time has come for the US government to assert its leadership and actively support peaceful and democratic regime change in Iran.

Right now, the US government has no policy toward Iran. It has only an attitude. The first step in developing a sound and responsible policy is to remove the PMOI and NCRI from the list of terrorist organizations.

The US should lead and lend its moral and political support to these organizations in their efforts to hold free and democratic elections in Iran under UN auspices.

Only by these means, can US begin to free the people of Iran and indeed the people of the world from the mad mullahs of Tehran.
