“US Middle East policy suffers from fundamental weaknesses”

NCRI – The recently revealed diplomatic cables reveal that US policy towards the Middle East suffers from fundamental weaknesses, a London-based Arab daily has said.

In an article published earlier this week, the Arab-language daily Assharq al-Awsat pointed to the virtually unanimous voices from Arab leaders concerned over the threats emanating from the Iranian regime against regional peace and security, and said, “What has been published or will be published in the future with respect to the position of Arab countries towards the Iranian regime was known previously. Arab leaders have not surprised anyone. But, in their talks against the Iranian regime, they have relied excessively on diplomatic language, and they have not even committed to militarily backing the US if it decides to attack.”

Assharq al-Awsat added, “The Wikileaks documents point to the military and security challenges as well as the perplexity that surrounds US policy.”

“One of the confusions in US policy is its failure to resolve the case of the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK), an organization that has demonstrated an impressive ability in marshalling people in Europe (in the course of gatherings of Iranians). This reflects the power and true picture of the PMOI.”
