Uprising in Southern city of Eglid

NCRI –  Thousands of furious Eghlid residents burned several government buildings in an act to defy decision to annex the tourist site of “Khosrow Shirin” to the neighboring province. (In southern province of Fars).

The rage was brought by a decision taken by Ahmadinejad to separate the profitable town of “Khosrow Shirin” from Fars Province.

Sources report that the protest was widespread and included school teachers, students, nurses, workers, office employees, and shopkeepers. The uprising led to clashes and burning of government buildings and parked cars.

Security and anti -riot units brought from adjacent province rushed to the scene and tried to disperse and crush the angry demonstrators with tear gas and batons.

Reports indicate that the crowd resisted the crackdown by throwing stones and attacking more government owned buildings. Many were injured as a result and were transferred to the local hospital.

It is reported that a curfew has been declared and all movements are under strict control by security forces.
