The EU cancels the freeze of the Iranian Mojahedin’s assets

L’Express,France, December 12 – (Extracts) The People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI), which is listed as a terrorist movement by the EU, won an important victory on Tuesday before the European court, which annulled the freeze of their assets decided in 2002.

In an order, which will probably have important international repercussions and provoke the wrath of the Iranian authorities, the Court of First Instance of the Union considered this decision as violation of the defendant’s rights, among others.

“Today I can already say that the Council (of ministers of the EU) has agreed to improve its proceedings”, Jean-Claude Piris, the head of the EU Council’s legal service, told the press.

The PMOI, an organization created in 1965 to fight against the Shah’s regime in Iran and then against the mullahs’, had long had an armed wing inside Iran, yet it affirms it had abandoned any military activity since 2001.

Maryam Rajavi, who heads the France-based National Council of Resistance of Iran, said it was a “great victory” for the Iranian opposition.

“This proves the legitimacy of the resistance over religious fascism in Iran”, she said.

“All the restrictions resulting from terrorism charges against the Iranian Resistance must immediately be removed”, she added in Strasbourg, where she was on a visit to the European Parliament.

Mrs. Rajavi, the wife of the historical leader of the People’s Mojahedin, Massoud Rajavi, who is in Iraq, unveiled secret uranium enrichment activities in Iran in 2002.

WHERE ARE THE PROOFS?

There must be "serious and credible evidence" to prove that individuals or organizations have attempted to committed terrorist acts.

Yet, for the People’s Mojahedin, who made a formal complaint, terror designation was not justified and the Luxembourg judges have fully accepted their arguments.
