Svetoslav Malinov MEP: Iran regime has no desire to reform

NCRI – Svetoslav Malinov, a Member of the European Parliament from Bulgaria, declared the Iranian regime’s recent elections as a “sham” and renewed his support for the Iranian Resistance’s struggle to bring freedom and democracy to Iran.

Mr. Malinov welcomed the visit to the European Parliament last week by Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, President-elect of the Iranian Resistance, saying that he is very interested “to hear from her what is going on in Iran.”

Mr. Malinov said he desires better conditions for members of the main Iranian opposition group People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran, PMOI (Mujahedin Khalq, MEK), in Camp Liberty, Iraq.

In a message this week to the people of Iran, Mr. Malinov said:

Last week we had the chance to meet again Mrs. Maryam Rajavi at the European Parliament. She is always welcome at the European Parliament. I’m a member of the Friends of a Free Iran group. It was very interesting to hear from her what is going on in Iran. We heard about the elections. By the way, we have no doubt that these elections were a sham. It was very interesting to receive firsthand information from her.

We all know that there are no democratic elections in Iran and that the opposition does not exist within the Iranian regime. So we are very well aware that the regime is trying to camouflage and to lie to the outside world.

We are very well aware also, thanks to Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, about the violations of human rights [in Iran], and we will never accept this. Although at the moment there is some change in the international status of the regime, I believe that Europeans will never accept full collaboration with the regime that is so disrespectful of human rights and which has proven over many years that it has absolutely no desire to reform.

I would also like to underline that the collaboration with the dictator in Syria Assad and the Iranian regime is deeply unacceptable, and I believe that it will just deteriorate the relations between Iran and the free world even more in the future. This is something that we consider as a direct threat to our European security.

I would also like to extend my desire for improvement of the situation in Camp Liberty. We are following the things there, and I would like to do everything possible for these people to feel safe, because we know that they are under a lot of pressure and under a lot of tension. I believe that your struggle will end with the achievement of a free and democratic Iran where respect for human rights will be a fact in the future constitution, and I hope that your fight will end successfully in the very near future. Thank you.
