NCRI – In a letter to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, two US senators have called for investigations with respect to rights violations committed against the residents of Camp Ashraf in Iraq, where 3,400 members of the main Iranian opposition reside, saying that more measures should be taken to prevent violence against the residents.
Senator Amy Klobuchar, a Democrat from Minnesota, and Senator James Inhofe, a Republican from Oklahoma, said, “We are concerned about continued rights violations committed against the residents of Camp Ashraf by the Iraqi government.”
“The Iraqi government has set up loudspeakers at the camp which constantly disrupt peace and quiet.”
“Baghdad also prevents the entry of people who seek to visit the camp while refusing to allow patients suffering from terminal illnesses to be hospitalized,” the letter said.
Addressing Mrs. Clinton, the senators stressed that, “In accordance with an agreement signed by the US and Ashraf residents in 2004, we urge you to enact the necessary measures to conduct investigations about the rights violations against the residents and to make the required arrangements to prevent future acts of violence.”
“We respectfully call for a precise assessment of the situation,” Senators Klobuchar and Inhofe told the Secretary of State.
