Return Camp Liberty residents to Camp Ashraf, Jordanian MP demands

NCRI – Camp Liberty residents are the target of repeated deadly attacks ordered by the Iranian regime and must be urgently returned to the safety of Ashraf, a leading Jordanian MP has demanded.

Mohammad al-Haj made the call at an Arabic and Islamic conference in support of the Iranian Resistance on June 24, praising the PMOI (MEK) for its struggle for a free Iran.

He told delegates: “I have followed the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran’s activities for years. The PMOI (MEK) is a democratic organization that does not accept wars caused under the excuse of religion or nationality.

“The PMOI (MEK) is an organization that struggles for human rights Iran and for a popular government where the people of Iran can live in freedom and security.

“I supported the PMOI (MEK) in Camp Ashraf and I have followed the inhumane treatment imposed upon them. This behavior is not acceptable. How can the Iraqi government allow such treatment against these unarmed people and leave them in such a condition?

“The PMOI are taking care of themselves without any financial cost to the Iraqi government. They are however confronted with armed attacks on the orders of the Iranian regime and are prevented from receiving logistical and medical equipment.”

Liberty residents were ‘forcibly moved’ from their former home of Ashraf in breach of Geneva Convention on human rights that states that as refugees they must be protected, Mr al-Haj said.

He added: “Therefore we demand that they be returned to Ashraf. I also follow the Iranian regime’s intrusions in the Arab region.

“The best gift given to the enemies of Islam and countries colonized countries by the Iranian regime has been the divisions it has caused, creating a war between the Sunnis and Shiites. This is a crime committed by the Iranian regime.

“I call for support for the PMOI. This is an organization that its only goal is that the Iranian people live and express their demands freely and choose their own secular government.”

Mr al-Haj was among a majority of members of the Jordanian parliament who in joint statement in late June supported the ten-point plan of President-elect of Iranian Resistance for democratic change in Iran. That statement also called for the immediate return of Camp Liberty residents to Ashraf.
