Remy Pagani meets Maryam Rajavi, calls for return of Iranians in Camp Liberty to Ashraf

NCRI – Mr. Remy Pagani, the mayor of Geneva met Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, the President-elect of Iranian Resistance, on Wednesday at the city’s Palais Eynard to make his plea to the world in the wake of the February 9 missile attack on Camp Liberty in Iraq which left seven dead and 100 injured.

The mayor of Geneva has condemned the deadly attack on Camp Liberty that houses members of the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) and demanded that the international community act now to move the residents back to the safety of Camp Ashraf.

In a press release issued by his office the mayor said: “This deadly attack is also an attack on the Geneva Convention because the residents of Liberty, including the seven killed and 100 injured, are protected by this convention.

“Swiss and international organisations should act now to protect the residents of Liberty and Ashraf.  Geneva and Switzerland are the guardians of the convention and can not remain silent while these crimes are being perpetrated.

“These people have suffered five years of oppression, murder and psychological abuse.  In that time, 56 people have been killed and 1300 injured.

“All the international organisations based in Geneva, including the UNHCR, the High Commission for Human Rights and the International Red Cross, should act now to have the residents of Liberty returned to Ashraf, where they have lived for 26 years in relative safety and security.

“They should recognise their refugee status and their status as persons protected by the Fourth Geneva Converntion.”

Mr Pagani added: “Remaining silent for whatever reason will only encourage the governments of Iraq and Iran in the further repression and massacre of these residents.  The silence must end and active intervention must begin.”
