Prominent Iranian Resistance supporter laid to rest in Berlin

NCRI – A memorial ceremony for the late Ingrid Holzhueter, former Member of Parliament in Germany and a long-time supporter of the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI) and residents of Camp Ashraf, was held on Thursday at the Mariendorf cemetery in Berlin. Ms. Holzhueter was also among Germany’s prominent national figures.

A large number of citizens and political, social, and human rights figures in Berlin attended a prayer and burial ceremony. A delegation representing the Iranian Resistance’s President-elect, Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, also took part in the service. Dozens of Iranian Resistance supporters accompanied the delegation to pay their respects and honor Ms. Holzhueter’s long-time support for the resistance.

Among the leading political figures in attendance were the Vice President of the Berlin Parliament, a number of German Bundestag members and lawmakers from the Berlin Parliament. Official government bodies, including the Chancellor’s office, the President of Bundestag and the President of the Berlin Parliament, sent bouquets of flower to honor the memory of the humanitarian and noble former lawmaker.

A prayer ceremony was held at the Protestant Church, where Ms. Holzhueter’s accomplishments, including a lengthy history of humanitarian efforts, struggle for gender equality, and activities in support of justice against fascism and dictatorship, as well as her support for the Iranian resistance for freedom, roused praise among the attendees.

Mrs. Rajavi’s message was read at the ceremony by Dr. Massoumeh Bolourchi, the representative of the National Council of Resistance of Iran in Germany. In her message, Mrs. Rajavi noted, “Hearing about the unexpected and heart wrenching news of the passing away of my dear sister and comrade, Ingrid Holzhueter, was incredibly difficult for me.”

She added, "I would like to offer my condolences to her family, friends, and especially Mr. Dirk Holzhueter, her beloved son. Ingrid, this noble and freedom-loving woman, was a compassionate and popular politician and a great supporter and friend of the Iranian people and Resistance. As she herself had said, she fought to uphold true values in her life. Her memory and name will forever live in the history of the Iranian people’s resistance and will be decorated with a sense of responsibility, honesty, and political integrity.”

Mrs. Rajavi added in her message, “During the recent events and since the day she heard about the attack against Ashraf and the inhumane crimes committed by the belligerent forces, she did everything she could in defense of Ashraf residents and the trampled humanitarian principles, despite the fact that she was ill. Although losing her is very difficult and unbearable for me, I have all the confidence that her values in defense of Iranian people and Resistance are still cherished and kept alive by her colleagues at the German Committee of Solidarity for Iran Freedom and all her German and Iranian friends and supporters. I pray for her soul and hope for patience and health for her friends and family.”

At the end of the ceremony, a poem was recited by the church priest, which was written by Ms. Holzhueter’s son, in her memory.

After the burial ceremony, attendees said their farewells and once again honored the memory of the freedom-loving and selfless Ingrid Holzhueter.
