Parliamentarians urge UN and the EU to prevent repression in Iran

Strasbourg (France), 28 January (EFE*) – Some 125 parliamentarians from the Parliamentary Assembly of Council of Europe today urged the UN Security Council and the European Union (EU) "to take urgent measures" to release political prisoners and stop the repression in Iran.

After Thursday’s execution of two opposition members accused of being "mohareb" (enemy of God), the declaration was made public to support the "Third Option" of the opposition leader Maryam Rajavi, with the goal of "democratic change with the Iranian people and resistance. "

The written declaration is concerned about the desire of Iranian regime for "the Iraqi forces to eliminate its 3,400 opponents" who live in Camp Ashraf in Iraq, which was attacked last July and left 11 dead and 500 injured.

Among the signatories, there are MPs from all political groups, including three Spanish (Miguel Arias Cañete, Delia Blanco and Carmen Quintanilla) and two Russian members of the ruling party United Russia.
