This morning 1000 Iranians demonstrated before the Danish Parliament and the Prime Minister’s Office in Copenhagen. They protested against the designation of the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI) on the EU’s list of terrorist organizations.

The Iranians participating in the event called on the EU’s Council of Ministers to abide by the European Communities’ Court of First Instance ruling by removing the PMOI from the terror list.

The demonstrators also called on the UN Security Council to impose the comprehensive weapons, diplomatic, technological, and oil sanctions on the clerical regime. They reiterated that a firm policy vis-à-vis the religious fascism ruling Iran is able to bring peace to the region and the world.

Mr. Jens Christian Lund, member of the Danish Parliament from Social Democratic Party and a member of European Affairs Committee in the Parliament, Mr. Hans Christian Neerskov, President of the International Sakharov Committee and President of Danish Friends of a Free Iran Committee, Ms. Bente Hansen , renowned Danish Writer,  and Mr.Erik Wahlberg, a Swedish attorney spoke at the rally.

Mr. Lund, said, “I agree that once the court delivered its verdict annulling the listing of the PMOI, it has to be carried on. I fully understand that you protest to the decision made by the EU’s Council of Ministers not to remove the PMOI from the terrorist list. I understand your call on the Danish government and the parliament to tell the EU Council and to exercise influence on it to remove the PMOI from the list.”

Mr. Neerskov addressed the demonstrators by saying, “How can the EU Council give itself the authority not to abide by the ruling of the court. The EU Council’s decision is an indication of the fact that there are signs of anarchism. When the EU does not abide by the court’s verdict, it means that they are appeasing the regime in Iran.”

Ms. Bente Hansen said, “The Iranian regime used all its influence to maintain the PMOI on the terror list. It is a list which has no legal legitimacy in U.S. or in Europe. The Danish government in its position should stop the process against the PMOI. The Iranian regime uses its finical deals with the EU as leverage for keeping the PMOI on the list and this shows  how afraid is the regime of the PMOI.”

Mr. Wahlberg said at the rally, “I call on the European Community and the U.S. not to stand in the way of the PMOI’s movement for democracy. You will achieve much more by supporting the PMOI instead of appeasing the Iranian regime. The first sign of support for democracy movement is to remove the PMOI from the terrorist list.”

Demonstrators Marched from Christiansborg Slotsplads to Rodhus plads at the end.
