According to a statement posted on Osnabruek University’s website, plans for the meeting, which was scheduled to take place on June 18 with Sheikh Attar, the regime’s ambassador in Berlin, were scrapped after Iranians living in Germany decried the move.
The statement by the university’s president, says, “A dialogue with Sheikh Attar, the Iranian regime’s ambassador, which was announced by the Osnabruek University’s Public Graduate and Social Sciences departments, was cancelled due to broad condemnations, particularly from exiled Iranian groups. In view of this, it appears that this meeting will no longer be possible.”
The Dean of the Public Graduate School at the university noted, “Widespread protests against a regime that has not obtained its legitimacy through democratic means and brutally suppresses dissidents is comprehensible.”
