Rajavi spoke at a conference in Paris

Iranian opposition leader Maryam Rajavi said that both Shiites and Sunnis are facing one enemy, and that is the Velayat-e-faqih (absolute rule of the clergy) regime in Iran which is based on what she called extremism and tyranny and sectarian conflicts in the region, particularly in Iraq and Syria.

In the conference entitled “Democratic and Tolerant Islam vs. Fanaticism and Extremism” held in Paris, Rajavi stressed that Islam rejects sectarian conflict, even between Shiites and Sunnis, noting that the division between the two communities is imposed by the velayat-e-faqih in order to continue its dictatorial rule.

She explained that the velayat-e-faqih regime and its militias in Iraq and Syria commit crimes under the pretext of war between Shiites and Sunnis while these communities were far from such conflicts.

She said that the slogan of “the road to Jerusalem runs through Baghdad,” was used by the founder of the Islamic Republic, Khomeini to inflame this conflict.

She noted that Sunnis are being killed in Iraq and Syria and the people of the various sectors of the society are being annihilated, as in Iran, where Shiites are now the victims of the barbaric regime.

She also cited the difficulties which the besieged Iranian opposition members in Camp Liberty (near the Baghdad International Airport) have been faced with in Iraq for the past 13 years.

She explained about the tragic circumstances that they are in and pointed out that the Tehran regime sends agents from its Intelligence Ministry to the gates of the camp to crack down on the population and intimidate them in various ways.

She warned that as long as what she described as the corrupt regime in Iran continues to rule, the Iranian people will not see freedom, arguing that the insistence of this regime on the possession of a nuclear bomb is a danger for the whole world, and noting that the solution to this situation lies in evicting this regime from the region and overthrowing the Velayat-e-faqih Caliphate in Iran.

The conference was attended by religious leaders and political figures, legislators and human rights and women’s rights activists from around the Muslim world, as well as Muslim leaders in France and representatives of the National Council of Resistance of Iran.

Participants discussed the crisis in the region from various aspects, the prospects for countering extremism, and the role of the Iranian regime in this crisis.

They pointed out that a possible nuclear deal between the West and Iran would have repercussions in the region and would lead to violent conflicts initiated by Tehran.
