Resistance heroine, humanitarian and widow of a president, Danielle Mitterrand (born Danielle Gouze) who died on November 22, 2011, aged 87, was never content with the ornamental role of a traditional French first lady. She was the founder of the ‘Fondation France Liberte’ humanitarian association.
