Leaders of Iraqi provincial tribes express support for the People’s Mojahedin of Iran

NCRI – In its Monday, October 2, edition the Az-Zaman Iraqi daily published a statement of support with Ashraf City – where the People’s Mojahedin of Iran, main opposition to the Tehran regime, reside  – singed by the people of the region. It was entitled “The tribal leaders of Diyali express their solidarity with the residents of Ashraf”.

The paper said that the tribe chiefs of the Iraqi Province of Diyali, north-east of Baghdad, underlined the fact that “the People’s Mojahedin are honorary citizens and are part of our society and our tribal”. The leaders reaffirmed their commitment to the defence of Ashraf City. They consider any attack on the People’s Mojahedin or Ashraf City to be an attack on them and their families.

The statement adds, “For twenty years, the People’s Mojahedin have been living in our sides in friendship and brotherhood. Not only have they made the ground they live on prosperous, but they have also played a constructive role in the setting up of security, services and economic aid for inhabitants of the region. Thus we commit ourselves to preserve this secured and friendly atmosphere until the liberation of their country. Moreover they can stay in Iraq as political refugees as long as they wish”.

In its Monday edition, the paper Al Irak Al-Yom also wrote: “72 sheikhs and leaders of the tribes in the vicinity of Ashraf City, while supporting the charter of honour of the tribal sheikhs of all the Province of Diyali which states that the People’s Mojahedin are honorary citizens and members of their tribes, signed a new charter in which they undertake the defence of Ashraf City against all threats constituted from the ruling regime in Iran. They emphasized that any attack against the People’s Mojahedin and Ashraf City amounted to an attack against themselves, their families and their tribes”.
