Jan Zahradil MEP: EU must work with Iran’s opposition movement

NCRI – Jan Zahradil, a Member of the European Parliament from the Czech Republic, has urged the European Union and others in the West to work with Iran’s democratic Resistance movement led by Maryam Rajavi to obtain human rights for the people of Iran.

Mr. Zahradil voiced his support for the main Iranian opposition group People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI or MEK) and criticized politicians who support concessions to the Iranian regime.

Text of remarks by Mr. Zahradil:

“Still more and more people in European countries and generally in the West are able to recognize that there is no substantial change within the Iranian regime and that the regime is still based on religious fundamentalism, and it is on a massive break of basic human rights, and that this is unacceptable.

However there are still politicians and political parties in European countries that are able and ready to make concessions to that regime; some of them because of business, some because of oil, some because they think Iran could be an ally against the so-called Islamic State (ISIS).

I think that this is a misunderstanding and this is an absolutely wrong analysis. I think we have to insist that human rights should be kept in Iran [and] we have to work with exiled opposition.

It is very good that PMOI leader Maryam Rajavi has very recently paid a visit to the European Parliament and she informed us about very unpleasant developments in Iran that once again uncovered the real nature of that very undemocratic regime.”

MEPs have expressed their support for Mrs. Rajavi and the NCRI’s 10-point plan for a free Iran.
