On the eve of the ‘Free Iran’ Grand Gathering in Paris, the statement ‘Freedom and Democracy for Iran’ was put on the agenda at Italy’s Vale De Susa regional Mayors’ council meeting, and approved after being reviewed and discussed by participants.

‘Freedom and Democracy for Iran’ statement

Signed by 22 municipalities in Italy’s Piedmont region, the statement expresses solidarity with Iranian people’s nationwide uprising while denouncing regime’s criminal acts against the protesters. The statement also declares support for Resistance of Iran and Maryam Rajavi’s 10-point plan for democratic change in Iran. The Italian mayors also underlined their support for NCRI’s Grand Gathering, due to be held in Paris on June 30th.

The signatories to the statement were the municipalities of Almese, Avigliana, Borgone Susa, Brozolo, Bussoleno, Caprie, Caselette, Cianocco, Chianocco, Cusa di San Michelle, Condove, Mattie, Mompantero, Novalesa, San Didero, San Giorio di Susa, Sant’Ambrogio di Torino, Sant’Antonio di Susa, Susa, Vaie, Venaus, Villar Dora and Villar Focchiardo.

The statement ‘Freedom and Democracy for Iran’ points to four decades of Iranian regime’s oppression and inhumane crimes practiced against the Iranian people, writing “more than 120,000 of Iranian regime dissidents and defenders of democracy and human rights have been executed in Iran, with their families being arbitrarily detained and put under barbaric torture or even executed.

“Following Khomeini’s order in the summer of 1988, the Iranian regime orchestrated sham trials to execute more than 30,000 political prisoners, mostly PMOI members or supporters, in prisons across Iran.

Supporting Iranian people’s uprising

“Amnesty International has regarded the massacre as a crime against humanity, calling for its perpetrators to be brought to justice. According to UN reports, the Iranian regime has the highest per capita execution rate in the world.
Despite such oppression, however, the world witnessed another wave of Iranian people’s uprisings and protests in January 2018, which soon spread to more than 140 cities across the country. The regime was quick to adopt extensive oppressive measures to stop the uprising.

“The Iranian people showed the world that they’re more than willing to join their organized resistance and pay the price for democratically changing the ruling dictatorship in Iran and replacing it with a system that is based on separation of religion and politics.

“We hereby express our solidarity with Iranian people’s uprising for freedom and democracy, and also declare our support for NCRI’s program for a democratic change in Iran.

“We ask the international community to make its relations with the Iranian regime conditional on the regime’s respect for human rights, and also ask with a loud voice for release of all political prisoners in Iran.

Supporting Iranian Grand Gathering in Paris

“We also support Iranian Grand Gathering, due to be held on June 30th in Paris to promote the Iranian people’s demands for overthrowing the religious dictatorship and establishing freedom and democracy in Iran.

Supporting Maryam Rajavi’s 10-point plan

“We support NCRI’s President-elect Mrs. Maryam Rajavi’s 10-point plan, which is aimed at setting up a democratic republic based on separation of religion and government, gender, ethnic and religious equality, non-pursuing any nuclear program, abolition of death penalty, peaceful coexistence and commitment to international rules and conventions, to ensure democracy, development and progress in Iran and the world.

“It’s time for the international community to put itself on the right side of history.”
