Italian MPs and Jurists Call for Removal of Terror label on PMOI

Participants emphasized that with Ahmadinejad, a terrorist Revolutionary Guard, as the new president of the mullahs, the complete failure of the European Union’s policy of appeasement toward Iran’s ruling theocracy is quite evident. After 16 years of appeasement under the pretext of strengthening the so called “moderates” within the clerical regime, the most conservative faction has now seized the control of all levers of power.

On the initiative of a group of Italian MPs from different parties, a conference was held in Rome’s National Hotel entitled, “Iran: Hardliner rule, Italian policy toward the Iranian regime and Resistance, 12 years after Mohammad Hossein Naqdi’s assassination" on July 20, 2005.

Mr. Giovanni Bianchi, member of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Italian Parliament from the Margarita party, Mr. Carlo Taormina, MP from the ruling Fortza Italia Party and a lawyer for Mohammad Hossein Naqdi’s case (NCRI representative in Italy assassinated by the Iranian regime), Mr. Giovanni Russo spena and Mr. Alfonso Gianni, MPs from the Communist Revival Party, Mr. Stefano Menicacci, former MP and prominent Italian attorney, Professor Roberto cudino, professor in Perugia University, and several lawyers, scholars and cultural figures participated in the conference.

A delegation from the Iranian Resistance, including Dr. Sanabarq Zahedi, chairman of the NCRI Judicial Committee and Mr. Reza Olia, NCRI member and distinguished Iranian artist and sculptor, also attended and addressed the conference.

The MPs also stressed that simultaneous with the court hearing over the murder of Mr. Mohammad Hossein Naqdi, NCRI representative in Italy, all the documents and evidence on the case should be made public to block any attempts by the Iranian regime to influence the judicial process.

Speakers also stressed on the need to remove PMOI from the European Union’s terror list, which was done as a goodwill gesture to the clerical regime within the context of the appeasement policy.

At the end of the meeting, the footage of public hanging of three young men in Khorramabad, western Iran, was screened, which shocked the audience.
