Mrs. Rajavi, who took part in the ceremony along with several Norwegian personalities, delivered a short speech. She thanked the people of Norway for their hospitality, adding that during the few days she spent in their country, she had been very impressed by Norwegians’ kindness and support as well as the deep emotions of her compatriots in this country.

She paid tribute to the courage of the Norwegian parliamentary deputies and authorities who resisted pressures and threats by the mullahs’ regime to prevent her trip from taking place, adding that they had given the regime a slap in the face.

Norwegians, she said, showed they had a higher regard for liberty, democracy and human values than for economic bargaining and that they were ready to make efforts in favour of other peoples’ freedom.

Iranians will not forget how Norwegians helped them in the darkest days of their history and this shall remain forever inj our country’s history books.

She thanked the delegation of parliamentarians who attended the ceremony, among them Morten Hoglund, parliamentary deputy and foreign policy spokesman of the Progressive Party, and his wife; Tord Lien and Karin S. Woldseth, deputies from the Progressive Party; Mrs. Ras, chairwoman of the international association of jurists in Norway; Lars Rise, former deputy from the Christian Democratic Party; and Odd Sevje, head of the Young Liberals Group’s international relations office.

With these flames of liberty, concluded Mrs Rajavi, we will bring freedom to the Iranian people and we will celebrate in Liberty Square in Tehran. On that day, all Norwegians and all friends of the Iranian people will celebrate this victory with us.
