Hassan Nayebagha, the Iranian soccer champion in 1978 World Cup in Argentina and a leading member of the  Sports Committee of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), was also invited to the event.

Portuguese members of European Parliament; Manuel dos Santos, EP Vice-president and Ribeiro e Castro, welcomed Eusebio accompanied by Benfica Chairman, Luis Filipe Vieira.

Paulo Casaca, Co-chair of the “Friends of a Free Iran” parliamentary inter-group at the European Parliament, introduced the Iranian champion to Eusebio and dos Santos while the crowd were cheering the “black Portuguese star.”

Nayebagha presented Eusebio with a book on Iran and its ancient historic places as well as an album containing the photographs of six Iranian national champions who were slain by the ruling Iranian mullahs in 1980’s.

The Portuguese legend thanked Nayebagha, reminding him of their friendly match in Iran in 1970.

The two soccer champions posed for photographers and Nayebagha made several interviews with Portuguese media. “It’s more than 20 years that I have left Iran along with dozens of compatriot sports champions because of the mullahs’ dictatorship ruling”, Nayebagha told reporters.
