Iranian regime is using public hangings to combat public upheavals

NCRI – Mr. Behzad Naziri, member of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the National Council of Resistance (NCRI) in an interview with the France Inter Radio said that the Iranian regime is using public hangings as a political tool to create fear and combat public upheavals.
“The execution of political opponents has continued in Iran for the past two decades. But the recent executions that are carried out in public have been used as a means of political suppression”, Mr Naziri said following a press conference in Paris on Thursday.

“The religious dictatorship ruling Iran needs these public executions to terrorize Iranians.

“We all remember the popular protests that took place in Iran last June. Iranian people no longer tolerate the religious dictatorship. It is an explosive situation considering the social circumstances. The Iranian regime is worried about its future, therefore, it tries to suppress the popular protests through public hangings which are broadcast at prime time on state-run television networks.

“This requires an appropriate reaction and specially a firm condemnation by the European Union”, Naziri said.

In a week of action which started on Mondy, Iranian exiles and supporters of the Iranian Resistance and Poeple’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) have been holding demonstrations across the world. In their banners and slogans they have been calling on human rights organizations and world bodies to intervene to stop mounting number of executions in Iran.
