PARIS ADDRESS: Andrew Mackinlay speaks to the crowd.

Thurrock Gazette, July 6, 2007 – BOROUGH MP Andrew Mackinlay has called on the government to change its mind over branding an exiled Iranian group as terrorists.

Speaking to a 50,000 Iranians in Paris recently Mr Mackinlay warned the current rulers of Iran that their days are numbered.

The MP described the inclusion of the Mojahedin of Iran on a European list of terrorist organisations "unfair" and "unjust".

He urged the British government and European Union to annul the listing, saying: "I deem it a great honor to be able to join you and the countless men and women around the world who will join us this afternoon for this event through the wonders of modern science.

"To them, the brave Iranians enduring exile, we send our greetings. And above all else, we say salam (hello) to our friends in Ashraf City, whom I am sure take immense pride in the enthusiasm and support they are getting from their friends here in Paris.

"We in the United Kingdom, and my friends in the British delegation, are joining 35 members of the British Parliament to challenge in London courts the wrong decision, the unjust decision, of the British government to continue to put the People’s Mojahedin of Iran on the list of terrorism.

"We say, this is unfair. We say, this is unjust. We say, this is foolhardy if we want to send a message to Tehran that the days of the regime are numbered. It is time that the British government and the European Union recognize who the true friends of freedom, justice, and democracy are.

"This is a wonderful celebration by the people who are determined to bring to their land, parliamentary democracy, rule of law, and respect for human rights.

"Let us go from this meeting here today with double the energy, and with great resolve, to ensure that the next occasion we meet is not in Paris, but in Tehran."

President-elect of the of the National Council of Resistance of Iran, Mrs. Maryam Rajavi delivered a powerful speech. She condemned the Western policy of appeasement towards the Iranian regime, saying: "We shall build a new Iran, a free society and an advanced nation. We shall make execution and torture a thing of the past.

"We shall abolish the death penalty. We shall dissolve reactionary courts and medieval punishments. We shall bring to an end the era of inquisition, compulsory veiling and meddling in the private lives of the citizenry.

"With Gordon Brown as the new Prime Minister, I hope that the new government changes its direction from siding with the mullahs to siding with the Iranian people and their resistance movement for regime change in Iran.

"It is time for the British government to wake up to the realities inside Iran. The removal of terror tag will send a positive and inspiring message to the Iranian people."
