NCRI – A delegation of the Iranian Resistance was invited to address a meeting at the Italian Parliament on October 24on the current situation in Iran. The Iranian Resistance’s delegation was led by Ms. Dowlat Nowrouzi, the NCRI’s representative in the United Kingdom and she was accompanied by Ms. Taraneh Davaran, member of the NCRI’s Foreign Affairs Committee.

The meeting was chaired by Antonio Stango, head of the Helsinki Watch Committee in Italy and over a dozen members of parliament from different political parties as well as representatives of different political and human rights groups addressed the meeting.

A message by Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, President-elect of the NCRI, was read out by Mr. Stango which was followed by other speakers.

In her message, Mrs. Rajavi said that the regime is at war with Iranian people in order to delay its downfall and in the meantime it is at war with international community by continuing with its nuclear weapons program and terrorist meddling in Iraq and other countries. She regretted that in such circumstances where the regime’s threats to world peace and security are growing the current policy of appeasement by the West is only serving the regime. She added that blacklisting of the PMOI by the EU has created the biggest obstacle to change in Iran and is used by the regime to justify daily executions of young people and opponents.

Other speakers also expressed their concern over the situation in Iran and condemned the EU’s ongoing policy of appeasement. They joined Mrs. Rajavi in her offer for democratic change through people and their resistance in Iran and were pleased to see that there was an Iranian solution to crisis in that country and a catastrophic war can be avoided.

The speakers at the meeting included, members of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Italian Parliament Sergio D’Elia, Luciano Pettinari and Alessandro Forlani; members of parliament Leoluca Orlando, Amalia Schirru, Elizabetta Gardini, Carlo Ciccioli, Benendetto Della Vedova, Maurizio Acerbo, Stefania Craxi and Paola Goisis; Barbara Saltamarini, head of equality section at the National Coalition Party; Massimo Vannucci from Democratic Left Party; and Beatrice Lorenzin, coordinator of youth section for Forza Italia Party.
