The meeting which took place in Brighton on September 28 as the annual conference of the British ruling Labor Party was going on in the city, dealt with clerical regime’s meddling in Iraq and growing violations of human rights in Iran.

In his opening remarks as the chair of the meeting, Lord Clarke of Hampstead condemned horrific crimes committed in Iran under the name of religion and expressed concern over mullahs’ weapons of mass destruction (wmd) programs and growing interference in Iraq, in particular its meddling in drafting Iraqi new constitution. He called on Iraqi government and Britain, as a member of the coalition, to scarp the item three of clause 21 of the draft constitution which affects the status of members of the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran as political refugees in Iraq. He described this as a ploy by Iranian regime.

He then called on Ayatollah Ganjei to take the floor. As an Islamic scholar, Ganjei stressed that the religious dictatorship in Iran has become a major problem faced by the whole world as it is the only regime which has turned Islam into a destructive weapon threatening not only the Iranians but also the whole world.

On human rights violations under the fundamentalist rule, he mentioned that 11 members of his family and close relatives have been killed by the regime and added that the Iranian Resistance has published the names and details of 21,000 victims of executions and murder in Iran out of 120,000.

Ganjei also spoke on export of Islamic fundamentalism by the regime and its role in Iraq and warned that it is trying to establish another Islamic rule similar to the one in Iran under its own domination.

At the end of his remarks, the NCRI official called for removal of the PMOI from the list of proscribed organizations in Britain and elsewhere and noted that it was essential for world peace and security and freedom of Iranian people as it is the most effective anti fundamentalist force.

Andrew MacKinlay, MP, and member of the Foreign Affairs Committee started his speech with a message to members of the PMOI based in Camp Ashraf in Iraq and praised them for their ongoing endeavors. He also expressed concern over mullahs’ meddling in Iraq and the ploys to interfere in preparation of new draft constitution. He called on British government to intervene immediately and abort the clerical regime’s ominous ploys to influence the situation in Iraq.

Jonathan Shaw, MP and Parliamentary Private Secretary to the Education Secretary voiced his strong support for the NCRI and endorsed the call by previous speakers to remove the PMOI from the list of proscribed organizations in Britain.

Deputy chair of the human rights committee of the British Bar Association, Mr. Mark Muller, described PMOI’s terror label as unjust and the result of a political deal. He called on parliamentarians and jurists in his speech to make every effort to remove the PMOI from the UK black list.

The last speaker, Mr. Masoud Zabeti, chair of the Iranian-British Lawyers Association in Great Britain gave a detailed account of human rights violations in Iran and export of terrorism and fundamentalism abroad specially after the appointment of the new president Ahmadinejad.
