NCRI – On Friday, nearly 1,000 Tehran University students clashed with the State Security Forces (SSF) over the bad food at the school cafeteria. Soon the event turned into an anti-government demonstration by the students gathering on the campus. They shouted slogans aimed at the clerical regime’s officials including Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

The SSF backed up by security guards at the university blocked the main gates not allowing the crowd to get out to the near by streets. Amir-Abad Street was filled with the SSF agents trying to contain the students who broke away and poured into to the streets surrounding the huge campus grounds.

The regular SSF units not able to contain the protesters called in the SSF Special Units of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).

Since the spring of 2003, it is the first time student protests extent to nearby streets. The SSF and security guards have made it impossible for the students to demonstrate outside the university campus fearing a rerun of the events in the summer of 1999.
