Regarding the upcoming global meeting in Poland that will focus on the Iranian regime’s policies in the Middle East, the Iranian state-run news agency Vatan-e Emrooz published an article that stated, “The first important point of this meeting is its similarities with the PMOI/MEK annual gathering [Free Iran Grand Gathering held by the Iranian resistance in France every year] in European capitals like Paris.”
The article continued, “They are going to hold a meeting about the Middle East far away from the Middle East. However, the meeting is not focusing on the Middle East, but it is a discussion between enemies of Iran on defeating Iran’s interference in the region after the U.S. sanctions.”
U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo announced the global meeting during his visit to Egypt, on January 11th, at the American University in Cairo. The U.S. will host the meeting in Poland on February 13th & 14th, and it will focus on the Middle East, most specifically on Iran. It will be held two days after the regime’s annual anniversary of the establishment of the Islamic Republic in 1979.
Pompeo said that the U.S. invited 70 countries from America, Europe, and the Arab region to the meeting.
After the exit of the U.S. from the nuclear deal, European countries remained in the JCPOA. Eight months later, they still negotiate with the Iranian regime, making promises about the SPV, humanitarian aids, and other solutions.
According to the article in Vatan-e Emrooz, “Donald Trump wants Europe to explicitly endorse the U.S. agenda and pressure Iran on its missile program and its role in the region. Holding the Poland meeting and inviting all European countries shows Trump’s solid determination for bringing Europe along with the U.S. sanctions. However, the accompaniment of the European troika (France, Germany, and England) and the U.S. in the White House’s anti-Iran policies against Iran’s missile program and its role in the region gives Donald Trump hope that the European countries will show their cooperation on Middle East issues.”
The news agency added, “The Warsaw global meeting, with the attendance of 70 countries, seems to be an important event against Iran, however, our foreign ministry’s reaction was like a reaction against a PMOI/MEK unimportant conference in a European city. Downplaying the Warsaw event can have its effect only if we had active diplomatic efforts behind the scene for dissuading the countries from attending the meeting using incentive or punitive measures. Nevertheless, our foreign ministry doesn’t seem to prepare itself for such efforts and the foreign minister satisfied himself with a tweet and said those who attended last U.S. anti-Iran show are either dead or marginalized and the U.S. and Poland should take care of themselves.”
