Iran : “How not to be by the Resistance side?” – Former French Prime Minister

Iran : “How not to be by the Resistance side?” – Former French Prime Minister Edith CressonNCRI – On July the 1st, Edith Cresson, former French Prime Minister attended a huge gathering of 30,000 Iranians to express her solidarity to Maryam Rajavi, president-elect of the Iranian Resistance. Mrs Rajavi recalled in her speech the NCRI program for a free Iran. Mrs Cresson took the floor immediately after to underline how much her statements favour democracy and freedom:

Ladies and Gentlemen, dear friends,

You are crowds of people. You have come from a great distance for this gathering and I listened very carefully to Maryam Rajavi’s speech. How not to subscribe to her statements which all favour democracy, human rights, and of course, women’s rights, faced with a regime which is an oppressive regime today? How France, the human rights country, would not subscribe to these statements?

There are here many elected representatives from all French political parties. I attended a conference three years ago which was held with representatives of the majority and of the opposition. And eveybody was in favour of the Resistance. How could we be opposed to you? Especially today, with the lift by French justice of this unfair suspicion which was hovering over your heads, when the quality of what you are doing and of your actions is recognized today. How could we be opposed to you? As you support human rights in this nation of human rights, how would not the nation of human rights be on your side?

Of course, it is going to be a long way before you achieve democracy in Iran. But be certain that you can rely on us, on many of us, because democracy is the foundation of our society; and that is what we expect for Iran which is a grand nation with a prestigious past and a vast culture. How not to wish Iran to be in the camp of democracy? How not to rise up against warmongering statements, especially on nuclear weapons, and threats on other countries, particularly Israel? How not to be by your side in such a difficult situation?

The situation of all resistance movements is difficult. We in France remember it. And we know that our Resistance also met great difficulties in the past, that it struggled to be recognized; and that eventually it succeeded and that the rules of a new state can arise from this resistance.

Therefore I congratulate you on your mobilization. I would like you to know that we are by your side and I wish you good luck. Your fight is far from being over, but you will have with you all those people here today and many more.
