NCRI, October 8 – A conference entitled “Islamic Fundamentalism, the New Global Threat” organized by a new committee "Together Against Fundamentalism" addressed the threats posed by the fundamentalist regime in Iran on October 5 in London’s Foreign Press Association. At the end of the conference a resolution was adopted which reads as follows:

The fundamentalist mullahs ruling Iran are unlike other numerous dictators that unfortunately rule in some parts of the world today. It is the only government in the world that has turned Islam into a destructive weapon that today holds not only the Iranian people hostage to its evil policies, but also threatens peace and security throughout the world. The Islamic faith has been transformed into an instrument for extensive violations of human rights, brutal, barbaric capital punishments, and export of terrorism by the mullahs’ regime.

The misuse of Islam has taken on great proportions. Hundreds of thousand intellectuals and students have been executed or imprisoned for supporting democracy, freedom and secularism. 174 methods of torture have been implemented against dissidents by the mullahs. Barbaric capital punishments such as lashing, public hangings, stoning, eye gauging, amputation of limbs are widely used against the general public.

On its foreign policies the fundamentalist regime relies on export of terrorism and fundamentalism and obtaining nuclear bomb. The mullahs train terrorist leaders and help create and support various terrorist groups all over the world. The strategists of the fundamentalist government ruling Iran, argue that since the regime’s armed forces stand no chance in a conventional confrontation in the age of highly advanced military technology and ultra-modern weapons, they must resort to other tactics, including terrorist attacks and the use of weapons of mass destruction, nuclear bomb and ballistic missiles to deliver them. On July 16,2005, Hashemi Rafsanjani declared: "We must prepare ourselves to confront the enemy’s new aggression. We shall respond to this aggression by striking at their heartland."

Islamic fundamentalism can not be exposed and challenged through a non Islamic culture. The progressive, tolerant, democratic, secular Moslems are the main antithesis that can expose and stand against this evil phenomenon. Over 500 Members of Parliament from the two houses have declared support for the main Iranian opposition, the PMOI, as a major barrier against the misuse and spread of Islamic fundamentalism.

The objectives of "Together Against Fundamentalism" are:

– To form a global united front against the world leading fundamentalist regime in power, the so called Islamic government ruling in Iran.

– To increase the public knowledge about this new destructive global threat with its ambitions to obtain nuclear capabilities and bomb.

– To demand our government to change its policy of supporting the mullahs to firmness.

– To refer the mullahs regime nuclear file to Security Council of the United Nations to impose sanctions against the regime.

– To strongly condemn extensive violations of human rights under the pretext of Islamic laws and culture in Iran, by adopting a strong resolution at the UN General Assembly this year.

– To remove the terror label from the main democratic opposition of PMOI, and hang it around the neck of the real terrorist mullahs.

– To support the call of Mrs. Maryam Rajavi to support the Iranian people’s resistance for a democratic change in Iran, and to reject appeasement or military option against Iran.
