Iran: French presidency must remove PMOI from terror list – Rajavi

Maryam RajaviMaryam RajaviNCRI – Maryam Rajavi, President-elect of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), called on France to remove the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) from the list of terrorist organizations, AFP reported from the Council of Europe on Thursday.

Mrs. Rajavi welcomed “the current France’s policy of firmness" toward the Iranian regime at a conference on the European Union’s policy on Iran, with participation of the current and former members of the European Parliament, the report added.

“But, the policy of firmness can be taken serious only by recognizing the Iranian people’s Resistance, that is to remove the PMOI from the list of the terrorist organizations," AFP quoted Mrs. Rajavi.

Denouncing the unfair character of the recent Majlis (parliament) elections in Iran, she ensured that the PMOI and the NCRI have “fought from the first day for free and fare elections”, the report said.

Adrien Zeller, President of the Regional Council of the Alsace in eastern France, and former member of European Parliament from the ruling party Union for Popular Movement (Union pour un Mouvement Populaire – UMP), said maintaining the PMOI on the list “is not an honor for our law abiding state”, AFP reported.

Alejo Vidal-Quadras, the conservative Spanish Vice-President of the European Parliament stated that Europeans “in fact do a service to the regime in Tehran by maintaining the PMOI on the list of the terrorists organizations," report the news agency.

Struan Stevenson, the British conservative member of the European Parliament for his part greeted the “policy of firmness of the current French president” while stating that this also means “sending a clear and necessary message [to the mullahs] by removing the PMOI from the list,” AFP reported.

The conference was organized by the French Committee for a Democratic Iran (FCDI) and the Friends of a Free Iran, the inter-parliamentary group at the European Parliament.

The People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI) also known as Mujahedeen-e-Khalq (MEK) is the main Iranian democratic opposition group and a member of the National Council of Resistance of Iran.
