Iran: Death sentence confirmed by the regime’s courts against prominent Bazaar merchant

NCRI – The clerical regime has confirmed a death sentence for a notable Bazaar merchant in Tehran, charging him with having contacts with the main opposition, People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK).

Mr. Javad Lari, a 55 year old political prisoner, was sentenced to death on charges of “moharebeh” (“waging war on God”) by the 15th branch of the regime’s Revolutionary Court in Tehran in a case presided over by Salavati.

NCRI – The clerical regime has confirmed a death sentence for a notable Bazaar merchant in Tehran, charging him with having contacts with the main opposition, People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK).

Mr. Javad Lari, a 55 year old political prisoner, was sentenced to death on charges of “moharebeh” (“waging war on God”) by the 15th branch of the regime’s Revolutionary Court in Tehran in a case presided over by Salavati.

Mr. Lari also spent 3 years in prison in the 1980s on charges of having links with the PMOI. He is a well-known merchant at Tehran’s Bazaar, and was arrested in September of last year by agents of the Ministry of Intelligence and Security (MOIS) in the course of a crack down on the Bazaar.

Separately, the Iranian regime has also confirmed the death sentence of Mohammad-Ali Haj Aqai on the same charge of moharebeh.

In 1983, Mr. Haj Aqai was sentenced to 5 years in prison for cooperating with the PMOI. As reasons for the charge of “moharebeh,” the regime cited Mr. Haj Aqai’s two visits to Camp Ashraf to meet his son, broadcasting the “PMOI’s [religious call for prayer],” and sending news to Simay-e Azadi satellite channel.
