Call for the release of political prisoners, especially the sick ones
The mullahs’ regime’s judiciary in Karaj sentenced 27-year-old Mohammad Hassani, on charges of disturbing public order, destroying public property, propaganda against the system, insulting Khamenei, and membership in the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI), to 12 years in prison and exile to Sonqor. He is a master’s student who was detained in January 2020. Initially sentenced to 3 years in prison, his case was reopened when he rejected collaborating with the regime’s intelligence ministry, and Judge Mousa Asef Al-Hosseini issued a 12-year prison sentence for him. Al-Hosseini is the same criminal judge who had issued the death sentence for two uprising prisoners, Seyed Mohammad Hosseini and Mohammad Mehdi Karami.
The health and life of 65-year-old Ebrahim Khalil Sediqi Hamedani, a political prisoner and supporter of the PMOI in Khoy prison suffering from severe diabetes, are in danger due to the interruption of his medications by the regime’s agents. His condition has worsened since February 24. The severity of his diabetes has led to the amputation of several of his toes and fingers.
Ebrahim Sadiqi, along with his two children, Salar and Maryam, was arrested in Urmia in March 2019. Maryam was released on heavy bail, but Ebrahim and Salar were each sentenced to 19 years in prison and fined 2500 million rials in cash on charges of “membership in the Mojahedin Organization of Iran”, “propaganda against the system”, and “filming military centers.” Ebrahim had previously spent two years in prison in 2005 for supporting the PMOI.
Reports from Evin women’s prison indicate that political prisoner Marzieh Farsi, who is suffering from cancer, is deprived of access to her medications, and the prison officials refuse to accept the medications purchased by her family, citing various pretexts.
Another political prisoner, Zahra Safaei, needs special care due to high blood pressure, but they oppose her medical furlough. She has previously undergone surgery, with two stents inserted in her heart.
The Iranian Resistance once again calls for an international fact-finding mission to visit Iranian prisons and meet with prisoners. It also urges immediate action by the United Nations and international human rights defenders to release political prisoners, especially the sick ones.
