The meeting was chaired by Mr. David Amess, MP, and the panel included Dr. Abdullah Jabouri, former Governor of Diyala Province in Iraq, Ayatollah Jalal Ganjei, chair of the NCRI Committee on Religious Freedom and Denominations, Mr. Brian Binley, Conservative MP and Mr. Hossein Abedini, member of the NCRI Foreign Affairs Committee.

Speakers expressed their grave concern over fundamentalist regime’s meddling in Iraq, in particular its interference with the new Iraqi draft constitution and called on the authorities in that country and the British government to intervene immediately to amend Clause 21c of the draft constitution which affects the status of members of the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI) in Iraq as refugees.

In his speech, Mr. Binley referred to the gathering of 20,000 supporters of the Iranian Resistance and the PMOI in New York in protest to the speech by mullahs’ president at the UN General Assembly on September 14. He described the gathering as a sign of hatred to the fundamentalist regime in Iran on one hand and popular support for the democratic resistance of Iranian people led by Mrs. Maryam Rajavi on the other.

Mr. Amess described People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran as a legitimate resistance movement supported by a majority of the British members of parliament and a large number of members of the House of Lords and called for removal of terror label on the organization.

Ayatollah Ganjei explained how human rights and in particular women’s rights abuses have been institutionalized in Iran under the name of Islam and the efforts of the regime to establish similar laws in Iraq by meddling in preparation of the new draft constitution in that country.

Some of the horrific things happening in Iraq and the role of the Iranian regime was exposed by Dr. Jabouri who had survived at least 14 terrorist assassinations back home. He also spoke about the extensive support enjoyed by the PMOI in Iraq and reiterated that 2.8 million Iraqis expressed their support to the organization in a joint declaration signed earlier this year.
