Iran: Azad (Free) University students call for anti-regime protests on June 12

Iran: Azad (Free) University students call for anti-regime protests on June 12NCRI – Students at the Science and Research Department of the Azad (Free) University in Tehran have released a statement calling on all their colleagues at the university campus, the University of Tehran and universities in other cities to join a rally scheduled for June 12, 2010.

The statement expressed condolences for the families of five political prisoners recently executed by the regime. Farzad Kamangar, Ali Heydarian, Shirin Alam-Houli, Farhad Vakili and Mehdi Eslamian were hanged in Tehran’s Evin prison on May 9, 2010. The students’ statement addressed the regime’s Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, asking, “What sin had Houram and Houraz Vakili [Farhad Vakili’s children] committed that compelled you to deprive them of their father? And, why did you rob the children of Kamyaran city of a teacher like Farzad Kamangar?

The statement also warned the clerical regime about the life of student activist, Majid Tavakoli, who is currently incarcerated, adding that the students of Tehran’s Azad University, Science and Research Department, condemn the abhorrent crimes committed by Khamenei. They emphasized the need to overthrow the regime and declared, “We neither recognize the fascist regime of the Islamic Republic nor do we consider Ali Khamenei worthy of being Iran’s leader.”
