NCRI – In a statement by students at the University of Kurdistan while requesting the freedom of 16 political prisoners sentenced to death, asked people to protest against repressive policies of the Iranian regime.

The statement said, “The Iranian nation has always fought against oppression. The events of last year clearly demonstrate the strength, will, and resilience of the Iranian nation. It has become evident that oppression only brings greater shame for the oppressors and displays their helplessness and impasse. We, the students of the University of Kurdistan, believe that the only way out of the current crisis is to recognize the rights of the Iranian people that entails freedom, democracy and free elections and unconditional release of all political prisoners and abolishment of death penalty for political prisoners, especially for the 16 Kurdish political activists.”

On the anniversary of the June 9 uprising, fearing another upheaval, the regime has deployed special anti-riot units in different parts of Tehran.
A large number of the security forces have been deployed to Enqelab Square, in front of Tehran University and Amir Kabir University. More forces have been deployed at the state-run TV and Radio broadcasting and many other parts of Tehran.

On the anniversary of the uprising of the people in order to create an atmosphere of fear among the students, the regime has prohibited nearly 30 students from entering the University of Science and Technology compound. Following the memorial services for Kianoush Asa on the anniversary of his martyrdom, the suppressive security forces at the University of Science and Technology summoned students to the disciplinary committee.

Agents of the Ministry of Intelligence and Security (MOIS) have detained two students of Tehran University School of Social Sciences according to reports received from Iran.
