Hundreds at the Iranian Resistance Ramadan gathering in Paris

Paris, AFP (excerpts) – On Saturday evening, Hundreds of people attended a Ramadan dinner in Paris. The event was organized by the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), an umbrella organization which the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI), is a member of, said an AFP reporter.
In the opening statement, NCRI spokesman in France Afchine Alavi referring to "fundamentalists such as the regime in power in Iran,” said, "Islam should not be mixed with a wrong interpretation that wants to void it from its true contents and substitute it with hatred, violence and cruelty.” The event was held in the Meridian Hotel Montparnasse.

«What are the roots of Moslems’ miseries? The biggest injustice [against Iranians] is the mullahs’ regime," a message read by one of the participants from Maryam Rajavi the NCRI leader. The "cultural" event "unprecedented in Paris," according to the NCRI was filmed and later would be broadcast on the Resistance’s TV channel broadcast via satellite to Iran and other countries for opponents of the Iranian regime.

In June, 2007, on a call by the NCRI tens of thousands of its supporters gathered in Auvers-sur-Oise (Val d’ Oise) to ask the EU to recognize the movement and modify its policy vis-à-vis Iran.

Iranians and Moslems of other nationalities, Sunnis and Shias took part in this “iftar” (break of fast). Among the personalities were the Mayor of Paris for 14th district, and socialist MP, Pierre Castagnou,  and Ghaleb Bensheikh, Chairman of the World Conference of Religions for Peace and presenter of program about "knowledge of Islam" on the second channel of the French TV, and the Lebanese ayatollah Ali Al-Hosseini, according to the NCRI.
