German group calls for protection of Iranian Mojahedin in Iraq

Ingrid HolzhüterNCRI – Ingrid Holzhüter, President of the German Solidarity Committee for a free Iran (DSFI) and former member of The German parliament, Bundestag, called on the UN Secretary General to directly intervene to ensure the rights of PMOI members respected in Iraq. Her letter reads as follows:

Dear Mr. Annan,

I am writing to you on behalf of the German Solidarity Committee for a free Iran
(Deutsches Solidaritätskomitee für einen freien Iran). Members of our committee were deeply shocked to learn of the bloody terrorist attack in Iraq.

This morning a powerful roadside bomb, set by the Iranian regime’s agents, hit a bus carrying Iraqi workers, killing 13 people and wounding another 15, some seriously, near Khalis.

"The victims were known to have worked in Ashraf city for years and so was the vehicle they commuted with to work every day.

It is clear that this atrocious attack is in retaliation to the main Iranian opposition, the People’s Mojahedin of Iran because of their tenacious struggle against the mullah’s dictatorship. An immediate reaction must be shown by the international community against this tragic crime. The international community is responsible for the protection of the Iranians who are fighting with the fundamentalist dictatorship ruling Iran with great risk and unique sacrifice.

Your direct intervention in ensuring the rights of these freedom fighters is more urgent than ever. These people are doing the human kind a great service with their resistance that is why we are asking you to do your utmost to ensure that the People’s Mojahedin, who are based in Camp Ashraf are granted political asylum by the Iraqi government. We ask the U.S. government to provide and step up protection for the Mojahedin in Iraq. The Coalition Forces and the International Red Cross have granted members of the Iranian Resistance status of protected persons under the Fourth Geneva Convention.

I have no doubt that your humane act of kindness will be supported by all human rights groups and organizations and will be remembered in the United Nations’ history.

Yours Sincerely,

Ingrid Holzhüter
President of the German Solidarity Committee for a free Iran (DSFI)
Former member of German parliament Bundestag
