Geneva: Third day of a sit-in in support of the People’s Mojahedin of Iran

Geneva: Third day of a sit-in in support of the People’s Mojahedin of IranNCRI – Iranian Resistance’s supporters continue their sit-in for the third consecutive day, in front of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees in Geneva.

This protest was initiated by Iranian refugees, French and Swiss citizens on August 2nd in order to  protest against Tehran regime’s plots against its main opposition force, the people’s Mojahedin of Iran (PMOI), based in Ashraf City in Iraq.

The action is part of a worldwide campaign calling for reaffirmation of the PMOI’s political refugee status in Iraq. Protesters are calling on the Iraqi authorities, the multinational force in Iraq and the relevant international bodies to safguard the rights of the PMOI members in Iraq under the Fourth Geneva Convention.

Statements expressing support to the residents of Ashraf City by a Parliamentarian group of the Iraqi National Dialogue Front, the Socialist Party of Naserieh and the tribal chiefs of Diyala province, was read out at the sit in. Kamal Hamdoon, chairman of the Iraqi lawyers association, also issued a statement, which was read out on the third day of action in Geneva.

A French-Swiss delegation met officials at the UNHCR to express their concern over the security and safety of the People’s Mojahedin in Ashraf City and to insist on the need to reaffirm their political refugee status in Iraq.
