Friends of a Free Iran in Sweden deplores the inhuman action by Mouwaffaq al-Rubaie, Iraq’s National Security Advisor to refuse entry of Iraqi physicians to Camp Ashraf for treating patients.

"This alarming action violates the fundamental rights of the residents and poses a serious threat against them since the Ashraf residents have no access to hospitals in Iraq. Moreover, it is a clear violation of international laws and it demonstrates the Iraqi officials' failure to carry out their responsibilities."

Friends of a Free Iran in Sweden deplores the inhuman action by Mouwaffaq al-Rubaie, Iraq’s National Security Advisor to refuse entry of Iraqi physicians to Camp Ashraf for treating patients.

The unlawful restrictions imposed on the Camp Ashraf residents, home to the members of the People's Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI[MEK]), intended to meet the Iranian regime's demands have intensified.

On the orders of Mr. Mouwaffaq al-Rubaie, a medical team of Iraqi physicians were barred from entering Ashraf by the Iraqi forces on April 3, despite previous assurances by Iraqi officials. The specialists were to perform surgery on a number of patients in Ashraf, in particular a female resident suffering from cancer.

This alarming action violates the fundamental rights of the residents and poses a serious threat against them since the Ashraf residents have no access to hospitals in Iraq. Moreover, it is a clear violation of international laws and it demonstrates the Iraqi officials' failure to carry out their responsibilities.

Friends of a Free Iran (FOFI) in Sweden condemns the inhuman undertaking which sets the stage for a humanitarian catastrophe and expresses its support for the residents of Ashraf. We call upon the US government, the UN Secretary General, and all competent international organizations to intervene immediatly to remove the unlawful and inhuman restrictions imposed on the Ashraf residents.
