French Senator: West should support Iranian opposition

The West should set aside the policy of appeasement toward the regime in Tehran and support the Iranian Resistance for bringing democratic change in Iran, French senator, Jean Pier Michel said in an online question-and-answer session on Friday.

Jean Pierre Michel, judge and founder of the French Committee for a Democratic Iran, and co-founder of the French Judges Syndicate said foreign military intervention has destabilized Iraq and this is an example that must be learned from. Appeasement must be set aside. Various countries believe appeasement will lead to results. Those countries insisting on negotiations are in the logic of continuing rapprochement.

Senator Michel said France must assume a more firm position in nuclear talks against the commitments that Tehran must assume. “If we go soft against Iran it will further embolden this regime,” he said.

The solution is neither war nor appeasement, “the solution is to support those struggling against this regime inside and outside of the country. There are many Iranians in Europe and America standing firm against this regime.”

“If governments, including the Obama administration, say they are committed to freedom, they must adopt an attitude of supporting this resistance movement.”
“In the face of fundamentalism and terrorism states are attempting to impose stricter laws. But these laws will not stop the phenomenon of fundamentalism. What must be stopped is the Iranian regime. That is the source of the money, state of mind and weapons, and it must be changed. That is why I defend the Iranian Resistance because they are the only existing entity. I hope to one day go to Tehran and witness the establishment of a democratic regime by the resistance that I support.”
