French court lifts restrictions on Iranian opposition

Agence France Presse – A French court lifted restrictions on 17 members of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) imposed following a raid on its headquarters outside Paris three years ago.

The appeal court said the 17, including the group’s leader Maryam Rajavi, can now communicate between each other, move freely about France and travel abroad.

The NCRI members were placed under judicial investigation on terrorist-related charges following the July 2003 raid at Auvers-sur-Oise, which critics of the French government said was designed to curry favour in Tehran.

"The ruling … once again shows that the evil and shameful raid on the offices of the NCRI and the homes of members and supporters of the Resistance had no legal foundation and was part of a dirty deal with the inhuman dictatorship ruling Iran," the NCR said in a statement.

"The time has come for this dossier to be brought to an end and all proceedings halted," it quoted Rajavi as saying.
