Frances Townsend: I stand with the Iranian Resistance

NCRI – A former United States Homeland Security adviser praised Maryam Rajavi, President-elect of the Iranian Resistance, at the “Free Iran” rally in Paris earlier this month.

Addressing a huge crowd on July 9, Frances Townsend said: “The work of Mrs. Rajavi and the principles that you all stand for here are increasingly important. In the face of violent extremism and an oppressive regime, you in the face of dogmatism stand for freedom.”

Ms. Townsend rejects any myths of a “moderate” Iranian regime under Hassan Rouhani’s rule.

She said: “The man [claims] to be a moderate leader [but, in his three years in office, he] is responsible for 2,500 executions, more than any other leader in Iran in the last 25 years. And can you imagine the U.N. sanctioned him for the execution of children? It doesn’t get much worse.”

Ms. Townsend said she was proud to stand with the women of the Iranian Resistance and she commended them for standing up for their rights against a misogynist regime.

She said: “You have suffered for that. I look out at the women here today and I am so proud to stand, with the women in Camp Liberty. When I think of the rise of acid attacks against women in Iran, meant to intimidate and silence them, I say I am proud to be your voice and I stand with you.”

Ms. Townsend then spoke of the victims of the July 4 rocket attack on Iranian Resistance members from the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI or MEK) in Camp Liberty in Iraq.

She said: “You here today, those in Camp Liberty and in Ashraf before them, you are the future of Iran. You are the voice of Iran. Tehran hears you today and the world.”

Tens of thousands of Iranians and their international supporters attended the “Free Iran” rally in Paris on July 9, which saw international support for the 10-point plan of Iranian opposition leader Mrs. Maryam Rajavi for a future free and democratic Iran.
