Paris, June 29, 2024 – At the Free Iran 2024 World Summit in Paris, former Canadian Minister and MP Judy Sgro expressed strong support for the Iranian Resistance and shared her hope that next year’s summit would be held in a free Tehran. Sgro, accompanied by colleagues Candice Bergen, Tony Clement, and Senator Michael McDonald, highlighted Canada’s solidarity with the Iranian people.

Sgro proudly announced that the Canadian government had recently designated the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a terrorist organization, a move she noted had been a long time in the making. She urged the European Union and the United Kingdom to follow suit, emphasizing the growing international support for the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI).

Reflecting on the impact of this designation, Sgro suggested that the Iranian regime is increasingly isolated and under pressure, with many in the world supporting the NCRI. She praised the leadership of NCRI’s President-elect Mrs. Maryam Rajavi and the dedicated efforts of the men and women at Ashraf 3, emphasizing the broader significance of their struggle for global justice and unity.

The full text of Canadian MP Judy Sgro’s speech follows:

Good afternoon, everyone. It’s so wonderful to be back here again at the Free Summit 2024. And I only hope that Free Summit 2025 will be held in Tehran. All of us want to see that happen. I’m joined on the stage today by my colleague Candice Bergen, Tony Clement, and Senator Michael McDonald.

We’re all here to show our support, Canada’s support. I can also tell you that I’m amazingly happy that it was my government that actually two weeks ago labeled the IRGC as a terrorist organization, something that many of us have been working on for a very long time. And again, now we have the European Union and we have the UK. They have to be the next two.

I can only imagine as this is being broadcast the mullahs and all the other folks in Iran are watching this and shaking in their boots, realizing the whole world, other than Russia and China, are supporting NCRI. And they’re probably rethinking the election and everything that is put into that bottle there.

So, Madam Rajavi and your wonderful group and to all of the wonderful men and women in Ashraf 3 that I look forward to having another opportunity to see soon to say thank you. Keep up the good work that you are doing.

It’s not just about Iran. This is really about where we’re going as a world and all of us standing and taking a stand against the kind of activity that happens, whether we’re in the fight against Ukraine or the other things that are going on. We need to stand as a united front. That’s what is here today. That’s what’s so impressive and so representative of your leadership, not only your Ten-Point Plan but all of the representatives that you have here today showing that we love you we have your support and we have your back. And we’re going to continue.

And we’re going to continue to be there. So, God bless you, and thank you for the opportunity to be here.
