Europe-Gulf committee welcomes PMOI delisting in US

Al Watan daily (Bahrain),

The European Gulf Committee in Defense of Camp Ashraf and Liberty welcomed the recent US State Department decision based on removing the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran from the terrorist list, stressing this decision is considered part of the special legal, international and humanitarian rights of refugees. The designation of the PMOI from the very beginning was the result of pressure and was a very cruel act against this organization, leading to catastrophic losses on the pretext of this being a terrorist organization.

This committee issued a statement yesterday calling on all international human rights organizations to support the PMOI and assist it in achieving its rights. This committee also called on the Iraqi government to respect refugee’s human rights based on a humanitarian nature and refrain from harassing them. The statement called for the camp residents to be allowed access to their humanitarian rights, freedom of movement, appropriate medical services and the right to express their beliefs. Journalists and jurists should be allowed to visit Camp Liberty to become more informed of the residents’ status in person, the statement continued, also emphasizing on the importance of not misusing these refugees’ assets to facilitate the finding of a third country for them or finding an adequate solution for their conditions.
