The news agency said a senior US diplomat, Philo Dibble, met EU officials in Brussels on Tuesday, “to show the impact of wider sanctions.” Mr. Dibble, a deputy assistant secretary of state, told reporters, “We have suggested the Europeans consider something like (what) we have done on human rights.”
Reuters added, the Iranian regime “executed two members of an exiled opposition group on Monday who it said were involved in turmoil after the 2009 ballot, the official IRNA news agency reported.”
Jafar Kazemi and Mohammad Ali Haj Aqaei were executed on Monday for visiting Camp Ashraf, Iraq, home to 3,400 members of the main Iranian opposition People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK), and for participating in the 2009 uprisings.
According to Reuters, “The 27-member EU has come under fire from rights groups this week for its approach to human rights violators.”
“World powers, including the EU and the United States, failed to win any concessions from Iran during talks on Tehran’s nuclear programme that ended on Saturday,” Reuters added.
