EU must immediately lift ban on Iranian opposition (PMOI/MEK) – Lord Dholakia

NCRI – "The reality is that the PMOI (MEK) is a nationwide grassroots movement, and we in the West have no right to be telling the Iranian people not to resist against the mullahs’ regime. Would you have told the same thing to Germans during the Second World War? The answer is no," Lord Dholakia, deputy leader of the UK's Liberal Democrat Party in House of Lords told a gathering of more than 70,000 Iranians in Paris on June 28, 2008.

Text of his speech follows:

Madam Maryam Rajavi,
Friends,

I can say to everyone that this is a day to rejoice. Finally, the Iranian people’s legitimate resistance movement has been cleared of any and all wrongdoings. This is a time for us to celebrate.

The PMOI [the People's Mojahedin Organization of Iran] has always been seeking to bring an end to the terrorists. During the barbaric regime ruling Iran, more than 120,000 members and supporters of this movement have been executed by the regime, including boys and girls as young as twelve.

To them I say this that men and women have been hung for their beliefs, and no democratic country should ever accept that. The reality is that the PMOI (MEK) is a nationwide grassroots movement, and we in the West have no right to be telling the Iranian people not to resist against the mullahs’ regime. Would you have told the same thing to Germans during the Second World War? The answer is no.

The EU must immediately lift the ban on the PMOI, since it added the group to its sanctions because of a request from Britain. We have shown the way, and I want the EU to follow that.

I want to say this: Let us pray that those who have shed blood have not died in vain. Let the message go out today from this meeting here that victory will be yours.

Long live PMOI and long live peace.

Madam Rajavi, the day will come when we will all come to the streets of Tehran to celebrate it with you.

Thank you.
