A majority of members of the Senate said in a joint statement: “We express our repulsion over the systematic violation of human rights in Iran which continues in spite of the international condemnations.

“We are also strongly disturbed by the secret nuclear programme of this regime as well as its terrorist involvements in the region and the entire world.”

The Iranian people deserved democratic change in Iran this year and called on the Dutch government to support the ten-point plan for regime change from Maryam Rajavi, the President-elect of the National Council of Resistance of Iran, the statement said.

It added: “We also call on our government and the UN Secretary General to refer Iran’s human right dossier to the United Nations Security Council and call for prosecution of the perpetrators of crimes in Iran..

“We are also deeply concerned about the security of the Iranian refugees at Camp Liberty in Iraq, members of the main Iranian opposition. On February 9 the camp was attacked by 40 missiles which resulted in the death of seven people including a woman and injuries to over 100.

“The most urgent issue is the security of the residents in Camp Liberty who may face similar tragedies at any moment. Therefore, we urge the UNHCR to immediately return them to Ashraf, their home of 26 years, which is much more secure against such attacks being 80 times larger than the half-square kilometre prison of Camp Liberty. Then they can be transferred to third countries.”
