Demonstration Against Ahmadinejad’s NY Visit: Iranians Rally for Democratic Change in Iran

Demonstration Against Ahmadinejad's NY Visit: Iranians Rally for Democratic Change in Iran U.S. Newswire – On the same day the president of Iran’s ruling religious dictatorship, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, will address a UN General Assembly meeting in New York, Iranian-Americans will hold a rally outside the UN Headquarters at the Dag Hammarskjold UN Plaza at 12 noon on Tuesday, Sept. 19.

Ahmadinejad would attempt to exploit the UN General Assembly’s tribune to articulate a radical and hate-mongering vision of Iran’s tyrannical regime next Tuesday. Iranian-Americans, however, will rally outside the UN to support a very different vision for their homeland: a democratic, peaceful, and nuclear free Iran.

Outraged by Ahmadinejad’s anti-Iranian policies, the Iranian- Americans will denounce his New York visit and support democratic change in Iran. Ahmadinejad has a wicked past. In the 1980s he reportedly operated as an interrogator and executioner in Tehran’s notorious Evin Prison where he earned the nickname "The Terminator," for firing coup de grace shots at political prisoners. The legal findings of the US Department of State have determined Ahmadinejad is in fact a terrorist individual.

Ahmadinejad is coming to New York at a time his belligerent policies have put Iran and the whole region on the verge of further conflicts and bloodshed. His government continues to arrest and kill dissidents in prisons, hang Iranians in public and crush anti-government protests.

Echoing the growing calls from inside Iran rejecting Ahmadinejad’s claim to nuclear nationalism, the rally will declare that Iran’s UN seat does not belong to the ruling theocratic tyranny. The Iranian-Americans would demand the seat to be turned over to the democratic opposition coalition, the National Council of Resistance of Iran.

Iran’s ruling regime, the most active state sponsor of global terrorism, is on the verge of obtaining nuclear weapons. Iran’s clerical regime has escalated its sponsorship of terrorism in the Middle East since Ahmadinejad’s coming to office last year. In Iraq, Tehran has been fueling a devastating conflict and its proxies regularly attack the anti-fundamentalist Shiite and Sunni leaders, the Multi-National Forces, and plot against the Iranian dissidents there.

Rising above the extremes of ineffectual military option or futile appeasement, the Tuesday rally will support an indigenous solution to neutralize Ahmadinejad’s radical agenda: democratic change by the Iranian people and their resistance.
