Delist the PMOI/MEK to fend off Iranian regime threats in region: NY Post

NCRI – The American daily New York Post called on Washington on Wednesday to delist the main Iranian opposition People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) to prevent the growing meddling of the Iranian regime in the region.

The paper wrote, “By now, Tehran’s attempt to widen its zone of influence throughout the Mideast and beyond has alarmed the neighboring Arab countries to such a degree that they’re seriously engaged in proxy wars against Iran across the region.”

It added, “In another worrisome development, troops loyal to Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki last week raided Camp Ashraf, near Iraq’s border with Iran, deliberately running pedestrians over and shooting live ammunition. The US-trained Iraqi troops killed at least 34.”

“PMOI spokesmen insist that the Iraqi raid last week was ordered by Tehran. The mullahs have long sought to crush the group.”

New York Post added, “Washington must by now realize that one of its most urgent tasks in the fast-changing Mideast is to fend off Iran. Otherwise, the Arab Spring will become a long and dark winter.”

It also recommended, “We need to take some public measures, like removing the PMOI from the State Department’s list of terrorist groups. … Whatever our reservations about the PMOI, we can no longer afford defining terrorism the same way terror-sponsoring Tehran does.”

“Two years ago, President Obama blew a chance to encourage Iranians who rose up against the regime after a fraudulent election. Now he can correct that error … History will be unkind if he fails to even try,” the paper said.
