Danish MEP denounces Iran regime terrorism in Iraq

NCRI – Danish member of the European Parliament, Mogens Camre, also joined his colleagues to condemn passenger bus bombing in Iraq which killed workers going to Ashraf City, home to thousands of PMOI members. The following is the text of his letter to Kofi Annan urging him to take measures to protect PMOI in Iraq.

"I was shocked by the latest horrible bombings in May 29 that led to the death of many ordinary Iraqis.

"While the undeniable and growing role of the Iranian regime on ongoing terrorist and violent acts in Iraq are of major concern to all of us, the tragic incidents on the early hour on Monday, May 29 should be viewed more keenly.

"This time, the Iranian regime’s terrorists blew up a passengers bus that was carrying more than 40 Iraqi workers to camp Ashraf, home to the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI), the principal Iranian resistance movement. The terrorist attack, carried out near the Iraqi town of Khalis, left 13 dead and 15 wounded, some in critical condition.

"It was very telling that this hideous crime against defenceless Iraqi workers who have been working in Ashraf for many years was carried out just one day after the Iranian regime’s Foreign Minister had visited Iraq.

"This crime requires immediate and strong condemnation by the international community. There should be zero tolerance for this behaviour by the Iranian regime.

"Meanwhile, this crime puts the spotlight on the dangers and threats facing the well being and safety of residents of Ashraf who are "protected persons" according to the Fourth Geneva Convention. International news agencies reported that the members of this organization have been the target of 150 terrorist operations in Iraq, carried out by the terrorists sent by the Iranian regime.

"In order to fend off the Iranian regime’s pressure on the Iraqi authorities against residents of Ashraf and to hider its further terrorist activities, the rights of residents of Camp Ashraf as protected persons and their right to the political refugee status have to be supported unequivocally by the UN.
