NCRI – The presence of the Iranian regime’s President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad in New York next week is “unacceptable and against all moral considerations,” the former Prime Minister of Algeria wrote in a letter to the mayor of New York, suggesting that the mayor take a public stance against Ahmadinejad’s trip.
Sid Ahmed Ghozali told New York City mayor Michael Bloomberg that Ahmadinejad comes to New York after brutally suppressing last year’s peaceful demonstrations before the eyes of the international community.
Ahmadinejad is due in New York next week to attend the annual gathering of world leaders at the UN General Assembly. There have been widespread protests against his attendance and Iranian exiles are planning to hold a large demonstration condemning his visit.
In his message to Mayor Bloomberg, Mr. Ghozali said protestors who took part in the year-long anti-regime “demonstrations are accused of “enmity towards God”, and face execution. Seven political prisoners have been executed in recent months and a large number are on death row, including seven prisoners accused of having relatives at Camp Ashraf in Iraq, where the main Iranian opposition movement is based.”
He added, “The man preparing himself to step into your town happens to represent a regime several of the leaders of which are sought for having ordered the assassination of political opponents or foreign citizens.”
“Several other leaders of this regime, still in office, were implicated in the 1988 massacre of more than 30,000 political prisoners who were accused of supporting the democratic opposition movement called the People’s Mojahedin of Iran.”
Mr. Ghozali went on to say, “Diplomatic considerations aside, the presence of such a personality, inspiring the most cruel and hideous form of religious extremism, in New York is unacceptable and against all moral considerations.”
“Opposing such a visit would show the world, the Iranian people and all other victims of the mullahs that those who, far from having a halo around their head, have their hands covered with blood do not merit to be received with dignity by the international community and the free world.”
